Hey Guys- here's a little bit about myself!

I'm 23 and just moved to the area after graduating from Bowling Green, I grew up in Cleveland area. A couple years ago I was watching hockey during the Olympics and decided to start calling around the local rinks to find an adult skills class (I think it's fair to say I missed my chance to be an Olympic hockey player.)

I coincidentally won a contest around that time, which funded all my used hockey gear (does that count as a sponsorship?). I was in a developmental class for about 4 months (and eventually some pickup games).

After about a year of not playing, I joined the Women's League last session and will continue to play in that league as well. I'm looking forward to playing more than once a week-I felt like I wasn't really progressing as fast as I wanted.

I usually play left wing but would like to test the waters with D-my stick handling isn't great and I seem to excel in accidentally getting in the way.

I look forward to a fun season!

Welcome!

Tony Prenger

I have lived in Columbus for most of my life. I grew up watching hockey, whether it be Ohio State or CBJ. I never played as a kid though. I first played hockey in an intramural league at OSU, and I loved it. I have been actively skating on and off for about a year now. This winter I decided to take the plunge, and signed up for the Thursday Adult Learn To Play class, and started looking for beer league team to join. I'd like to say I'm a relatively good skater for someone who has only been skating a year. I have stone hands though and can't stick handle or receive passes for the life of me. I'd prefer to be a forward, but I'm willing to play anywhere on the ice. I've never played organized hockey before, so I don't have a firm grasp on the duties of each position, but I'm willing and ready to learn. I'm looking forward to having a fun first season, whether it be good or bad from a hockey perspective.

"Stone hands" LOL you and I both, friend. Welcome aboard, can't wait to play with you!

Dale Renner - Intro

Hey all, I'm Dale.

I really don't need much of an introduction, I'm sure you've all seen me on TV playing Pro Hockey. I started playing Hockey in Canada for about 18 seasons and then decided to play on the canadian national team before they decided I was too good and kicked me out of the league. After that, I wandered the desert and bacame a Jedi.

Just kidding, I grew up in Cincinnati where like three people have even heard of hockey. We have a couple rinks, but generally speaking, most folk don't play unless they're at like a private school or something. Anyway, I went to Miami for undergrad, and hockey is kind of a way of life around those parts. I took the plunge and sponsored a couple of Beginner teams for a few sessions at MU, played in a tourney in Maryland last year with upper level players (which was absolutely horrifying for a newbie).

My skill level is... adequate? I can skate backwards at like .05 miles/hour, but I defintely wouldn't say I'm a good skater. I played forward most of the time in the other leagues, but I did play defense and even played goalie once. (ONCE).

I am a bit of a rough player, though. I am familiar with the penalty box and I'm familiar with the process of, professionally speaking, rocking someones world if they mess with the wrong person. Otherwise, I'm the kind of person who helps old ladies carry in their groceries and I pet kittens/hold babies.

I am 26 years old. Physically active (I workout 3-4 days per week for about 2 hours+ per workout). I can run 10k in about 50 minutes on a good day.

I'm also missing some bottom teeth, so.. hockey smile! lol.

TL/DR

I'll play anywhere and do anything. I think I'm best suited for Defense, but I think being forward would be more fun. In my *limited* experience, skating backwards doesn't really help all that much unless you're really really good at it. But I'll do my very best.

Y'all rock and are the bomb digggity.

Mitch Delventhal

Hey guys! I've been a fan of hockey for a while, and my girlfriend plays in C, but I just started learning to skate a few months ago and did the last session of learn to play. I'm 25, from cleveland but have lived here in columbus since starting at OSU. I'd prefer to play forward, because my backwards skating isnt great, but I dont really know what I'm doing so I'm willing to go anywhere. I'm looking forward to playing with you all!

Mitchell Delventhal - Fri, Dec 27 2019

Hey Mitch!

Welcome to the team! Gotta be tough to compete with a girlfriend playing up in C lol - I'm sure she's a rockstar though. In any case, glad to have you playing with us. Can't wait to hit the ice alongside you. let's rock this!

Evan Drexler

Hey all,

My name is Evan, and I'm brand new to Columbus. I'm originally from Miami (Florida, not Ohio!) but have lived in upstate New York, Arkansas, Louisiana and now Ohio all since graduating college. I'm 32 and my hockey experience is limited to a few years at the lowest levels in Arkansas. I always played forward in the past since I can't skate backward.

I moved to Columbus in August for a new job with The Ohio State University Marching Band. I actually just got to Arizona for the Fiesta Bowl on Saturday, and I'll be in New Orleans for the national championship game if Ohio State makes it. Look forward to meeting all of you.

Brett Maddry

Hey everyone, I've recently moved to Columbus for a job and was looking to get back into playing hockey, and am excited to lace up for the E league! I've never played organized 5v5 hockey before, but have played a ton on the ponds with my friends in high school -- I'm from Wisconsin, where lakes are frozen at least three-to-four months a year. I'd prefer to skate at forward and I still have enough athleticism to play a decent two-way, but I'm fine playing defense if there's team need. Looking forward to sharing the ice with you all!

Maksim Nikolenko

So Teachers and telemarketers had a hard time pronouncing my first name (I'm not even talking about the last name) so I go by MAX. I'm the full time goalie for this team, but will always switch up with the sub goalies on the days they can play, or if we are are shirt on offense or defense. I'm married, just turned 36, have 3 little boys, and I played in the E league mondays for the past 2 years. My first game before I got on the ice I though" ahh, I'm russian, my dad used to scate, so scating should be in my Jean's. I got this" well needles to say I missed seventeen(17) goals, and the rest that I was able to save were the ones that just bounced off of me. I must say at least I wasn't walking on the ice like some guys on our team, so I felt some vindication. But we had team practices, and after 2 years I look the part of the goalie a lot better. And play a lot better. Will gladly accept tips and criticism from real goalies, but definitely ready to play and CANT WAIT for season to start.

Maksim Nikolenko - Sat, Dec 21 2019

Hey Max! Welcome to the team. Can't wait to play with you. Also - gonna make it a mission to try and pronounce your name correctly before the end of the season. FIRST AND LAST!

Steve Armitage

Hey Guys !

I grew up in the Detroit area where hockey is pretty popular. (Go WINGS ! sorry , had to say it!!)

I was always pretty athletic as a kid but never played ice hockey other than on the pond as a kid.  I got into roller hockey a bit in middle and high school, and I wasn't very skilled but got by on athleticism and effort.

After college I played about 4-5 years of rec inline hockey then did some intro/beginner ice hockey leagues in Detroit for about 3-5 years maxing out at D leagues.  We moved to Columbus in 2013 and I played 1 season of Sunday D league about 6 years ago and have only been on skates a handful of times since.  I keep myself in reasonably good shape for a 40 year old, am not very skilled, but just like I was as a kid , I will do my best to get by on athleticism , effort while trying to improve my skating skills and stick skills.

I will play whatever the team needs but I feel I can help the team the most as a two way Center or D.

Sub goalie intro

Good evening, I have been playing for the last year and a half. Started with Saturday Night Hockey and subbing for E and D league. I also sub for the over 40 and over 50 groups. I never played until I turned 40 and said the hell with it and jumped in.
I am a fireman and work every third day. The schedule keeps me from joining a team as a regular player. I am excited to be on the team and help however I can.

I just celebrated 15 year anniversary with my wife ( I married up) I have two kids. An 11 year old volleyball playing daughter, and 13 year old son. He plays for the CCYHA special hockey program and aspires to play club in a few years. Kid has a cannon of a shot and God help us all if he gets his skating skills.

I'm looking forward to meeting the team and helping out

Scott Randle

Hey guys!

Started skating about two years ago, just doing stick and pucks with my boy. He plays pewee ccyha out at Dublin. He's awesome at it but I'm not so good. I can skate but barely and go slow backwards but I'll get better. I can't wait to get on the ice with you guys and I've played a game up in d league and a couple in e but I was used just to get in the way and get the puck to the shooter. I played winger all games. Also I'm signed up for the Thursday learn to hockey classes so that I can have a practice one a week too in case anyone else wants to join!

Introduction!

I started "trying" to play hockey about 4 years ago.  I worked nights then and me and a buddy from work had always played sports our entire lives.  We were tired of not doing anything so one night we were pondering things we could do.  A basketball team, a soccer team, a softball team, etc, etc?  My buddy asked, "what about hockey?"  Looking puzzled I asked, "hockey?"  "I've never been on skates!"

He had played hockey on the ponds up north as a kid but never could afford to play on a team.  So he explained how the classes work and so that night, I decided to give hockey a try.

Took a learn to skate class then joined the Thursday Dublin learn to play class.  Over the next 1- 1 1/2 years, I did the learn to play class, occasional stick and puck and the occasional Saturday Night Hockey class.

My daughters who were 11 and 6 at the time would come watch me. They decided they wanted to give it a try.  My older daughters interest faded quickly but my 6 year old loved it.  Needless to say, she has excelled at it and I have not played since she started hahaha!

She is 10 years old now and plays travel hockey for EYHA and she playes for the Cleveland Lady Barons.  She is an excellent player and I am no where close to her level on the ice.  I'm back at the point I was 4 years ago where I'm tired of not having anything to do. (Other then work of course).  So I can't wait to get back into hockey.  I plan on doing the Saturday Night Hockey classes again as well.

I was not a bad skater when I stepped aside due to my daughters schedule (which is more under control now).  However, it's been awhile and I definitely have some work to do.  That being said, I'm open to play anywhere on the ice.

Sorry if there are errors galore in this post, iPhone loves changing words on me

Josh Low

I've never played hockey, I've been on the ice in pads 3 times now for stick and puck or Saturday night hockey. I played lacrosse in college (goalie) and have enjoyed watching hockey for years now. I'm looking forward to meeting all of you. I signed up for this because I exercise way better with a team sport setting.

Get to know the Goal Miners....

Since we're all strangers, please post your NAME, HOW LONG YOU'VE PLAYED HOCKEY, what POSITION you'd prefer to play (no promises) and an interesting tidbit about yourself. Thanks! BB

Bob Buczek, started playing hockey in May for FUN, (started skating in March), willing to play DEFENSE (I can skate backwards, and I'm not opposed to getting rough if "that guy" is on the other team and deserves it; I've got a 16 year old son who is a four time state champion for Special Olympics. He's a gymnast who has Down syndrome. I've got a 13 year old daughter who started playing hockey in January and took to it like a fish to water! She plays for CAHA.
